Crowley Independent School District Resolution for Dr. Sidney H. Poynter: August 6, 1937 – November 30, 2022

We, the Board of Trustees, Superintendent and staff of Crowley Independent School District, are saddened by the passing of Dr. Sidney H. Poynter, who faithfully served as Superintendent of Crowley ISD for 40 years. While we mourn this profound loss, our hearts are filled with gratitude and thanksgiving for Dr. Poynter’s visionary leadership and countless contributions to help make Crowley ISD what it is today.
Dr. Poynter joined the Crowley ISD family in 1959 as a teacher and basketball coach. He was named superintendent in 1963, and he faithfully led the district in that role for four decades. When he retired in 2003, he was the longest-serving superintendent in the same school district in the state of Texas.
As a celebration of Dr. Poynter’s dedication to Crowley ISD, the Board of Trustees proudly named Sidney H. Poynter Elementary School in his honor in 2005.
Dr. Poynter was a trailblazer who played a key role in laying a strong foundation and overseeing a time of significant growth in Crowley ISD. As more families and businesses were moving into the district, Dr. Poynter remained focused on serving students and staff and developed an atmosphere that remains today as we continue to act like a family and work like a team in Crowley ISD.
His legacy lives on in the lives of the countless students who have attended our schools in the past, the students of today and the students of tomorrow.
Now, therefore, the Crowley ISD Board of Trustees so hereby proclaim that the district will observe a Day of Leadership and Service in Memory of Dr. Sidney H. Poynter every year on the Tuesday after Labor Day.
In closing, we thank God for the privilege of knowing and sharing the life of this dear educator and administrator, and we extend our sincere sympathies to his loving family.
Be it resolved that a copy of this resolution will remain in our files and a copy will be given to the family.
